Dorood (not exactly but take it as a “Hello”).
Farsi is the language of Iran (ancient Persia…). Despite the disinformation about Iran (that we have to swallow spread by some plunderer and imperialist governments), the Persian culture is an amazing field that attracts much people and me alot, and I have the purpose of understand it and learn the language. I have the tools: some good and bad books, some pronuntiation guides, two (and increasing) wonderful Persian friends, and the willing. I wonder whether this site would allow me to learn Farsi and, at the same time, share that advance with some Spanish speaker, but I’m going to try!. The only reason for me to write these posts in English is just to get some interaction with Iranian people that cannot speak Spanish.
Somewhere I red that the name of the Persian language, “Parsi”, became “Farsi” recently with the introduction of the Arabic script (a Persian friend told me that they do not use the term “Parsi”, so perhaps my previous information was not accurate). No, they have not been using the Arabic script till recent times. In the Arabic languages, the sound “p” is not a typical phoneme, so it became “Farsi” by substitution of the “P”. We could say that Farsi is the Modern Persian, according to some resorces. While some cultivated and intellectual authors keep the position of naming Persian to their language, others rather want the Farsi term instead.
One of the most surprising things I find in many iranian people is their ability to write with Arabic script and ALSO with Latin script. To write and read with Arabic script you need to have certain fonts installed in your computer. Although I say Arabic script, you have to know that the script used by Iranians is not the same than the Arab script, although very similar.
To finish this introduction, I also want you to know that most of you have a wrong idea about Iran and Iranians. Not only due to the -IMHO- destructive comsequences of extremist Islam interpretations, but also due to disinformation. But ignorance (your own ignorance) can be a choice.
My (our?) learning process will be reflected in the posts that you will find here under “Farsi or Modern Persian” clickable category on the right.

Thankyou Homeyra.
Unfortunately I haven’t got anything to offer by now, my Persian skills are very very very basic yet. I got too many things to learn at the same time!…
My plans are to drop some lines here from time to time about my learning process, so other Spanish speakers could take profit of it and learn something by following some of
my steps, who knows!?!?!?…
Thankyou my friend.
